My thesis was on the exaggerated role of the Underground Railroad in Canada since the northern states had ended slavery. In addition, many of the communities in Ontario failed due to racism on the other side of the border. How the abolitionists knew each other and supported the work is fascinating and becomes a lesson in who knew who for those interested in digging a little deeper during Black History Month and beyond. It can also be fun to have students find these connections for critical thinking or inquiry-based work!

Slavery terminology

Abolitionist Connection to English literature and who’s who! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Black Settlements in Ontario Maps

Abolitionist and Settlement worksheet

These ❤️4 +1 pages are ready to print and provide an easy lesson on Black History with connections

[9
437
post-1777","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-resources","tag-black-history-month
https://teacheraccommodated.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Black-history-routes-with-passage-and-vocab-cover.png",714,722,false
https://teacheraccommodated.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Black-history-routes-with-passage-and-vocab-cover-150x150.png",150,150,true
https://teacheraccommodated.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Black-history-routes-with-passage-and-vocab-cover-297x300.png",297,300,true
https://teacheraccommodated.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Black-history-routes-with-passage-and-vocab-cover.png",640,647,false
https://teacheraccommodated.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Black-history-routes-with-passage-and-vocab-cover.png",640,647,false],"1536x1536":["https://teacheraccommodated.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Black-history-routes-with-passage-and-vocab-cover.png",714,722,false],"2048x2048":["https://teacheraccommodated.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Black-history-routes-with-passage-and-vocab-cover.png",714,722,false
https://teacheraccommodated.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Black-history-routes-with-passage-and-vocab-cover-714x575.png",714,575,true
https://teacheraccommodated.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Black-history-routes-with-passage-and-vocab-cover-590x410.png",590,410,true
["GET
