This interesting and FUN math activity comes with a story and can help struggling learners see that math can be EASY!
❤️No multiplication tables!
I like to set up this activity as a challenge, tell the story, and then show them how smart they can be and dangle the opportunity to show their parents what they learned.
Often, some students will use the calculator to test if the answer is right, and the students will add with me on the Board and can do it faster.
This is great to reinforce learning skills.
First, these patterns were discovered while he was in a Nazi concentration camp without access to pen/paper to impress the students. You don’t need a lot of background to be able to appreciate how hard it would have been to figure it all out while you were working.
Second, I chose the 11 pattern as it is easy and students may already know the doubles to encourage them to pay attention.
I demonstrate on the board, and this slideshow has the step-by-step method to be able to present, or the PDF can be used to show on screen.
NOTE: This is great for an on-call, especially if math is not your thing!
