I was not an expert on Vietnam and needed to create this slide show to help me chronologically present the conflict. I mention not to excuse the quality but to let other teachers know that you don’t have to be entirely confident with this topic to use this slide show effectively. It has been designed to help both the teacher and student.
The content goes from the former colony and request for assistance to the devastating impact of the chemical agents, massacres, and evacuation. The legacy and birth defects and how depicted in national history has also been included with quotes and perspectives to include higher level components. It has also been specified for each present to be able to answer these questions for IB questions rather than just as the conflict (proxy war) as a whole.
The step by step escalation, maps, and details by president are really helpful for students who want to use this to answer IB questions. I have since read more on the topic and feel that I did a good job building this presentation. I have used a few of these key slides in numerous other slide shows (ie. Cold War) and for different history courses because the information as presented is easy for students to understand visually.
I usually add this to the evidence or to show the pattern of controversial evidence around war escalation which also makes a great lesson when combined with the USS Maine, ‘German’s dropping babies in Belgium’ and more recently the ‘weapons of mass destruction’ to get students to look closely at the evidence.
There are also cartoons included to help practice the interpretation skills for papers and primary resources.

I did a lot of work on this slide show to help the students understand the key events with graphical components. I hope it helps save you time 🙂
There are OPVL+C activities included to present and discuss for practice.
I have used slide shows to teach for years as I have found that the graphics help the students. I have also included notes for the teacher on some slides which is helpful in the preview mode when presenting.
75 slides now (added more perspectives and quotes to help for IB papers)
