I was late getting started with teachers pay teachers and missed the boom time. There are stores with thousands of followers than can market or send out emails to let them know when there is a new product or to remind them of a resource. But, what do new stores do that have resources to share.
I started watching videos and the suggestions kept referring to blogs?
Blogs were ๐popular about 10 years ago but how how do you find or create one?
What they really meant was a website where you can post about your materials. However, you need to wait for the crawlers to find your content and hope that you have posted often enough and got enough attention to your website for them to start to put it on their search engines.
In the meantime, the best you can do is to make it attractive to buyers who may type in a keywords.
- The titles are important to catch the buzzwords.
- There is a debate about adding all the key words in the description from more experienced sellers based on padding which may work against you if someone doesn’t buy if only a reference and not the focus.
- Make the covers appealing.
- Add extra pictures or thumbnails
- Buying borders and graphics may not be necessary from what has sold (no noticeable increase for upper grades)
- Videos are now popular
- Elementary sources often need pictures to show the work.
Note: I added some math resources without fancy covers and some of them have sold better than the one where I spent a long time making graphics. ๐ฟ
Even if you have spent all the time to make your resources pretty, they still may not be found on teachers pay teachers.
Next steps is to look at social media.
- Pinterest was suggested but once you add a link to TPT they flag as a business account and stop promoting.
- Facebook and Insta do get the occasional hit (but not always buyers)
- I forgot to tag in insta and this might help…
- Creating previews may help to gain attention
The advice that you only have so much time to market and create and that selecting the posts that might give you the most value helps.
I am also noticing that a lot of sellers are linking similar products at the bottom of their description to help buyers find related items.
Don’t forget to add your tags in hope that they key words will help one day for someone to find your amazing materials!
I read that you may only sell a few items for the first 6 months and then it should start to pick up depending on the crawlers intervals. The algorithms change all the time so just keep advertising your content and it should pick up. I did get a slight uptick at 6 months.
I also read that there is a slight decrease at the moment on hits for TPT as Board’s crack down on the traffic and due to teachers trying AI tools. However, the learning curve to create sources with AI and the content may not be what tried and tested sources can bring to the classroom.
You can’t replace the kindness of a teacher who has customized materials for the needs of a class ๐ ๐ซถ๐ป
Don’t get discouraged because there are a lot of teachers making extra money on the side using this wonderful platform to share resources! ๐ฅ
