Creating a realistic scenario that includes a design element, writing, presentation, and the application of law makes a great final or end-of-the-year project. The pieces all have to fit together and so the plagiarism decreases. You can also add your parameters or change it every year to deter the temptation. This was fun and the students had a choice to pursue and include elements of law that interested them from the course.
I used to do a big unit crime component due to student interest, but some years, when you are team teaching there isn’t an opportunity. This assignment gives the students some of those components in a pared-down way to suit the course that you delivered. If you covered famous cases, current cases, and Charter cases, this assignment can still be used to see what the students learned in their consideration of the process and the details that they include.

In addition, I also have a mock trial summative that is a partial mock trial if you don’t have the time to complete a full one in the course or due to particular student needs.
